Express bus strikes landmine and eight passengers sustains injuries

HURFOM: On November 1, 2023, an express bus traveling with 43 passengers struck a landmine placed near Kyun Taw village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State and four men and four women sustained injuries.
“Eight passengers were injured in total. A man had a fragment of the landmine pierce his abdomen. He was immediately sent to Mawlamyine General Hospital,” said an official from a local rescue team.
Other injured victims were sent to the Kyike Hto General Hospital for further treatment. Most passengers were coming from Irrawaddy Division to Mon State for work.
According to one official with the bus company, the majority of the vehicle was destroyed by the landmine explosion.
On October 23, 2023, a civilian vehicle also struck a landmine near Ka Mar Sai village, Thaton Township and a married couple sustained injuries.
