Junta’s artillery attack kills 8-Grade student in Tenasserim

HURFOM: On October 14, 2023, the military unit based in Lay Thar Mount, Tenasserim Town, Tenasserim Division launched multiple artillery attacks on nearby villages. There were no armed clashes that preceded the attacks.
One artillery shell exploded in Ta Mote Chone village and injured a 16-year-old Grade 8 student, named Maung Pyae Day Wun, aka Wa Tote, and another family member. Maung Pyae Day Wun suffered from severe injuries to his abdomen and arm, and the other family member had a facial injury.
Maung Pyae Day Wun was sent to the Myeik General Hospital but died on October 28, 2023, two weeks after his admission to hospital.
“He was severely injured and did not survive. His body was burnt on the last night (full moon day) of “Tha Din Kyut” month,” said a local source.
The Tenasserim based military unit has been launching artillery attacks targeting nearby villages without cause, resulting in injuries and casualties to local people.
