HURFOM: In the third week of October, 2023, four residents from Kyike Hto Township, Mon State were injured by artillery attacks launched by the military junta, according to the statement of the Thaton District Karen National Union.

On October 19, the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion based in Kyike Hto Township launched an artillery attack on Mae Yone village and injured a 27-year-old woman.

On October 22, a military unit based at the Kin Moon Chaung Police Station, Kyike Hto Township launched at least 20 artillery attacks targeting  Hngat Pyaw Taw, Zee Gone, Pi Taut Taw and surrounding villages.

Three residents from Hngat Pyaw Taw village sustained injuries from those attacks.

As soon as the armed clash broke out at Kin Moon Chaung, artillery shells dropped and exploded in our village. Three villagers sustained injury. It isn’t life-threatening,” said a Hngat Pyaw Taw resident.

The military junta frequently launches artillery attacks either indiscriminately or as an overzealous response to an armed clash.  They also destroyed village roads in Kyike Hto Township.  Local people are increasingly facing problems related to transportation, along with high commodity prices creating even more livelihood difficulties.
