Ten Paung residents charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act

HURFOM: On September 3, 2023, the military junta arrested more than 20 residents from Oak Tan Tar village, Paung Township, in Mon State after accusing them of having connections with the People’s Defense Forces.
After interrogating them in the military camp for a month, the junta charged 10 residents under Section 50 and 52 of the Anti-Terrorist Act, according to a source close to the junta’s police forces.
“The military transferred 10 residents to the police forces and all of them were charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act. Yesterday(October 2), four villagers were released on bail,” said the source.
Paung City Police Station and Mottama Regional Police Station charged three villagers on September 20 and another three villagers on September 28. They also charged another four villagers under the ATA on October 2.
According to local sources, the military junta arrested at least 30 villagers in Paung Township in September, 2023 and family members have not been able to contact the majority of those arrested.
