August 21, 2023

HURFOM: On August 17, 2023, the military junta arrested a female vendor from Za Yet Seak village, Pu Law Township, Myike District, Tenasserim Division.

The victim is Ma Mee Kam. She is a vendor who bought and resold vegetables, fish and meats from Pa La Town using her motorbike. She was arrested by the junta on August 17 on her way to Pa La to buy goods.

Normally, the soldiers are not there. But after houses of a lawyer and a militia leader were burnt down, the soldiers are now active in the area — patrolling day and night. The reason for the arrest is unknown,” said a local man.

According to the local people, two houses of the junta-appointed militia leader were burnt down on August 15, 2023.  In response, junta’s soldiers have frightened local villagers with reckless and random gunfire and they have increased their patrols.
