Number of COVID-19 patients on the rise again in Mon State

May 15, 2023

HURFOM: Since the last week of April, 2023, the number of COVID-19 patients in Mon State has started to rise. According to the Ministry of Health, which is controlled by the junta, more than 40 patients were detected from April 26 to May 5, 2023.

The COVID-19 infection rate is increasing again but people are having a normal life. They are not wearing masks. The Ministry of Health hasn’t released any public health instructions,” said a resident from Thanbyuzayat Township.

The junta has restricted the ability of emergency teams to provide assistance to COVID-19 patients.

If a household member is infected with  COVID-19, only the nearby rescue/charity teams can provide a COVID-19 test and bring the infected patient to a COVID-19 center. Now they have to halt their activities.  We are helpless now,” said a villager from Thanbyuzayat Township.

According to the Ministry of Health, there were 13 new COVID-19 patients in Chaung Zone, 8 in Mawlamyine, 7 in Paung, 6 in Mudon, 3 in Kyaik Hto, 3 in Thanbyuzayat and 1 in Kyaikmayaw Townships.
