HURFOM: On May 6, in Kawthaung District # in the Southern Tanintharyi Region residents said that a group of junta forces, including the GAD and military officers, seized the property of a local businessman in Bokpyin Township.
The victim, U Aung Zaw Oo, is believed to be an anti-regime activist and a local businessman from Kamar-Chaung village. His family opened a gas station a few years ago.
“On that day (May 6), his Gas Station, the house, and the tea shop, as well as the entire plot of land, were sealed and seized by the joint SAC troops,” according to the local witnesses.
U Aung Zaw Oo was arrested by the junta forces at his home on April 4. The unproven allegations accuse him of supporting the People’s Defense Forces. He was charged under section 50 (J) of the anti-terrorist law. He has been detained until today at the police station in Bokpyin.
On April 4, three other residents were also arrested, but were released six days later. U Aung Zaw Oo was not released and remains in detention for more than a month. His family’s properties also remain sealed.
“Whenever the Junta forces and their intelligence in Bokpyin town receive suspicious information about the revolution, they arrest and detain people. In some cases, the seizures are carried out before the accused is even found guilty in court, and their property confiscated. Meaning the Junta forces wholly disregard the law, commented a local source familiar with the law.
He continued, “The punishment of someone not proven responsible for any alleged wrongdoing is prohibited under international rules for armed conflict.“
Homes and other properties belonging to anti-regime activists had not been sealed in Bokpyin township for a long time. ” Now, the most expensive assets and properties are being seized (by the Junta),” a resident of Bokpyin Town told HURFOM.
