On January 30, 2023, a plumber also stepped on a landmine at the same place and lost his leg.

Because of two landmine victims within a week, villagers are afraid of going to their plantations.

Our Ye Township is not peaceful after the coup. We could go to our plantation safely before but now, we dare not do so. We’ve also heard gunshots very often. Now, there is news of injuries due to landmines. We dare not go to that place at the moment. We have to wait and see, said a local plantation owner.

The area where both landmines were found is frequently used by the local People’s Defense Forces. Local villagers think the landmines may have been set by the military junta, but that remains unconfirmed.
