Abbot and villager killed in “Shwe Gu Bridge” battle

HURFOM: In the afternoon of June 1st, 2025, the joint resistance forces launched an attack on the junta’s “Shwe Gu Bridge” security gate located on the Tha Yet Chaung road, 8th Union Highway Road, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division.

The junta’s regiment in Dawei City responded with artillery attacks with shells that exploded on the premises of the “Thit Sake Pin” Monastery in Sour Wa village near Shin Mote Htee village, Dawei Township. A 66-year-old Abbot, named Baddanta Eain Doll Bar Tha was killed on the spot.

It was a long-ranged artillery attack. The Abbot was hit by the artillery debris in his monastery at 3 pm. The debris hit his head and he was killed on the spot. We haven’t decided how to organize the funeral event,” said a local villager.

Also in the evening, a 30-year-old unknown man who lived at the base of the “Shwe Gu” Mount was also killed in the artillery attack.

As there are constant artillery attacks, we’re unable to pick up the body till evening,” said a local source.

From January to May, 2025, the junta’s artillery attacks have killed 22 civilians and injured 65 in Mon, Karen and Tenasserim regions.
