Two killed and 3,000 flee homes following armed clash in Long Lone

HURFOM: On May 30th, 2025, the joint resistance forces attacked a junta’s military base at the “Latt Khat Taung” Tower Hill on the road between Long Lone Town and San Hlam village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.

The junta’s regiments responded with indiscriminate artillery attacks that killed two villagers and forced more than 3,000 villagers to flee their homes in Long Lone, Tha Byar, Nyin Maw, Pyin Htein and Sit Pyell villages.

One artillery explosion killed 40-year-old Daw Aye Cho from Ward “D” in Long Lone Town and on May 31st, another artillery explosion occurred at a palm oil plantation near a football field in Nyin Maw village. She died on the spot.

When there were repeated artillery attacks, Daw Aye Cho was still in a safe place. After that artillery attack stopped, she came out to look around her house. That was when she was hit by another artillery attack that killed her on the spot. Her father was also injured and has been admitted to hospital. Another child who was also hit by the artillery attack. She was sent to the Dawei Hospital. But the security gate in the “Ka Myaw Kin Bridge” stopped the rescue team, and asked lots of questions for an hour. Eventually, she was allowed to enter the town. The doctors tried to operate on the patient as soon as she reached the hospital but she died in the operation room,” said a nearby villager. 

During the battle, both the regiments in Long Lone Town and Kyat Sar Pyin Ward, Dawei City launched indiscriminate artillery attacks.

Residents were forced to flee to Yebyu, Kyauk Phyu, Kyat Yet Twin, Tha Win and villages in southern Long Lone Town. Some villagers fled to Dawei City.

Nearly the entire populations in Sit Pyell and Nyin Maw fled. Most villagers in Pyin Htein village also fled. Some remained in the village to guard their houses,” said a Pyin Htein villager.

Military tensions have persisted in Tenasserim Division since April, 2025 and more than 75,300 residents have fled their homes.
