HURFOM: Since April 14th, 2025, there have been intense battles in Kaw Ka Rate and Kyone Doe Towns, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.
According to a statement released by the Mon Liberation Army (MLA) on May 20th, 2025, junta air assaults, artillery and drone attacks killed 14 residents within a month.
The MLA stated that two, three-year-old children, a pregnant woman and an old man were among the victims.
“Now, there is no armed clash near Kyone Doe but the junta is still launching air assaults and artillery attacks. That’s why the villagers were killed,” said a Kyone Doe resident.
Junta attacks also injured at least 24 residents including monks and schoolchildren.
The attacks also damaged monasteries in Karn Ne, Karm Ma Rite and Tha Lwelve Htaw villages. A mosque in Karn Ne village and a school in Win Ka village were also damaged by the attacks.
“There was damage to buildings in Karn Ne, Tha Lwelve Htaw and Northern Karm Ma Rite villages. We don’t know the exact amount of the damage. Both government schools and self-reliant schools around Kyone Doe have been closed,” said the resident.
According to local media the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and its alliance forces have been battling the military junta around Kyone Doe, and approximately 50,000 residents have fled their homes.
