HURFOM: The military junta has declared students can be registered for the 2025-26 academic year from May 22nd to June 1st, 2025 and schools will open on June 2nd.

Military tension has persisted in Kyone Doe Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State since April, 2025 and most residents have fled their homes. However, the military junta is pressuring education officials to operate schools in the coming academic year.

The teacher said students can be registered for school between May 20th and June 1st. The students who returned to the villages have applied for registration in their villages. Those who fled to the town, will be registered there,” said one parent.

Currently, the government schools have been closed but self-reliant schools in the areas controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU) are operating. Most displaced villagers have returned home and parents are hopeful that schools will be operational in the coming academic year.

Most displaced villagers returned home so schools in the village will be operating,” said one parent.
