HURFOM: At 9 am on March 16th, 2025, ATOM, the dominant telecommunications operator used by residents in Three Pagoda Pass Town, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State, was cut off. As of May 16th, the communication network remains down, creating communication and livelihood problems for residents.
Local sources told HURFOM, that Thar Pu, an official with the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army – DKBA and the service provider of the ATOM company, had deliberately cut the network off.

DKBA is now offering “Wi-Fi Internet” service in Three Pagoda Pass and each household that wants to get the service has to pay 6,000 Thai Baht for an initial fee and 1,000 Baht for a monthly fee.
“They intentionally cut the phone network off. The DKBA has been cooperating with the Chinese businessmen to exploit the locals. If we have the phone network, no one wants to get their Wi-Fi internet service,” said one resident.

DKBA has installed fiber internet cable from Three Pagoda Pass to Kyane Chaung village — this is where DKBA’s Major A One lives.
On February 25th, 2025 the Thai government also cut off electricity, gasoline trade and communication networks in Three Pagoda Pass. The results of these policies have left local residents with many socio economic and livelihood problems.
