Junta’s army and administrators accept bribe money and protect gambling events in Mudon

HURFOM: Gambling events are been organized publicly in Mudon Township, Mon State under the context of celebrating local traditional festivals. The army and the administrators have been accepting bribe money from the organizers and providing a security guard to the gambling events, local villagers reported HURFOM.
A single festival usually has more than 200 gambling events and each gambling event have to pay a ransom of 250,000 MMK every night to the army and the administrative teams. The bribe money provided by gambling events can be up to 50 million MMK for a single night.
“Even a single gamble event can give lots of money and there are many gambling events. So the army hasn’t arrested them. They even provide security guard to the gambling events,” said a resident from Mudon Township.
As the gambling events have been protected by the police members and the members of local militia groups, lots of people are doing gambling publicly.
“People from other States and Regions are suffering from causality, residential damage and shortage of food due to the earthquake. But Mon State is crowded with festive and gambling events,” said a resident.
However, on September 6th, 2024, an excessive number of soldiers and police members gambling events organized in Sein Taung Ward, Kamarwet Town, Mudon Township.
According to a survey by the ISP-Myanmar, gambling events are publicly and crowdedly organized in 101 townships across Burma.
