HURFOM: In the first week of December, 2024, an intense battle broke out between the military junta and the Karen National Liberation Army near Ka Tie Teak village, Phar Pon Township, Karen State. More than 3,000 residents had to flee their homes and take shelter in Bilin Township, Mon State.
The displaced villagers have been taking shelter in Nat Gyi, Mell Pa Lee and Ah Su Chaung villages and now two months later are still unable to return home.
Due to their prolonged displacement, the community ran out of food and is urgently in need of rice, basic food, sweaters and blankets, according to one social worker.
“The armed conflict hasn’t ended yet. The junta is targeting our village with artillery attacks so we dare not go back home. We had no choice but to leave our homes, and now it has been a long time, it’s difficult to get food. Also, now, it’s winter and we need sweaters and blankets,” said a displaced villager.
The military junta is also launching air assaults targeting Bilin Township and the 3,000 displaced villagers have taken shelter in nearby mountains, forests and rubber plantations.
