HURFOM: In Thaton Township, Mon State, the Director of the Township General Administration Department has given a verbal instruction that when two men are riding the same motorbike, they will be arrested and immediately sent to military training camps.
The junta was about to open the 7th batch of military trainees but failed to collect enough conscripts. Those summoned for conscription ran away to avoid joining the military. In response, the junta has decided to forcefully collect the conscripts, according to sources close to the military junta.
“The Township Chief gave what is being called a “Go to the army” instruction in cases when two men are found riding the same motorbike. They will be arrested immediately. There is also pressure from the district authority to force conscription. In addition, anyone who reveals or speaks about this directive will be punished,” said the source.
The junta has been collecting conscripts for the 7th batch in Kyike Hto, Bilin, Thaton and Paung Township of Thaton District. In addition to those found riding two on motorbike, young men going out at night to drink alcohol, and those addicted to illicit drugs will be forced to join military training.
According to the report by the BACS, more than 21,000 young men across Burma have conscripted to the first five batches, and more than 13.000 conscripts from the batch 1 to 3 have been sent to the front lines.
