Junta’s artillery attack kills elderly woman, injuries teenage girl

HURFOM: On November 5th, 2024, junta soldiers and police members, who were riding the same vehicle launched two 60-mm artillery attack from Ward #1, Thane Za Yat Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.
They missed the target and the shells exploded on a house in Ward #5, killing an elderly woman and injuring a teenage girl.
70-year-old Daw Khin Myint died of skull rupture and abdomen wound and his granddaughter 15-year-old Ma Lell Lell San sustained a minor injury to her hand.
“Junta’s soldiers and police members usually launch artillery attacks from Ward #1. We heard the sound of artillery attacks yesterday. They hit the home of Daw Khin Myint. Both grandmother and granddaughter were both hit. The grandmother died at the spot,” said a Thane Za Yat resident.
Ma Lell Lell San was sent to the Thane Za Yat Hospital with the assistance of the local rescue team.
Prior to this attack, on November 2nd, 2024, the 310th artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yat launched an artillery attack and burned down and destroyed a house in Pane Nell Gone village.
“As the armed clash broke out, all villagers fled to a school in Sin Twin village to take shelter. There were no casualties,” said a local source.
According to the data collected by HURFOM, the artillery attacks by the junta’s soldiers and police killed three residents and injured at least seven other local people in Thane Za Yat Township.
