Junta’s regiment burn down houses, arrests residents and use them as human shield

HURFOM: In the second week of September 2024, a junta’s regiment consisting of about 80 troops launched a military operation in villages in Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division. The troops burnt down nine houses and arrested more than 50 villagers and used them as human shields.

On September 14th, 2024, the regiment entered Ngar Mile village and burnt down nine houses.

The regiment entered the village at about 5 pm and they burnt down houses. Only the elderly people who couldn’t run away were left in the village. Many villagers had already fled,” said a Ngar Mile resident.

The regiment also arrested ten young men from the village who are in the age range eligible for the compulsory military service.

On September 12th, 2024, the regiment entered Lat Phell and Kyauk Tin Baw villages and arrested 40 other villagers.

After the battle on September 11th, the regiment entered Lat Phell village. They also launched artillery attacks while entering so there had been casualties. The injured villagers are also among the arrested,” said a Lat Phell resident.

About 20 Lat Phell villagers and more than 20 Kyauk Tin Baw villagers were arrested and the regiment released 15 Kyauk Tin Baw villagers. The remaining had to follow the regiment and were used as human shields, according to a villager who was recently released.

Nearly all the arrested were released on September 14th, however, the regiment has still arrested five Lat Phell villagers and used them as human shields.
