HURFOM: On August 14th, 2024, an 18-year-old girl “Mi Gan” was returning from the plantation to her house in Maung Mell Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division to pick up clothes and food when she stepped on a landmine hidden by Burmese troops.
“She stepped on a landmine after taking her belongings and leaving her house. The incident took place near her home. The leg had to be amputated. Now, she is receiving treatment at the Dawei General Hospital,” said a local woman from Maung Mell Shaung.
“Mi Gan’s” family fled their home and were sheltering in a nearby plantation. They were unable to return home because Burmese soldiers were stationed in their village.
Junta’s soldiers burgle empty houses and loot valuable things. The soldiers also burnt down more than 20 houses in the village.
The entire Maung Mell Shaung village fled their homes in early July, 2024.
