HURFOM: On February 19th, 2024, the military junta arrested four former government staff who had joined the “Civil Disobedience Movement – CDM”. The four were arrested at their homes in Kan Bauk Town, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
51-year-old Ma Yin Yin Aye from Mac Gin Ward, 30-year-old Ma Thet Thet Maw and Ma Nay Chi Oo from Mya Thidar Ward and 36-year-old Ma Ni Lar San from Hle Gone #2 Ward were staff with the Education Department.
“We don’t know exactly why they were arrested but we think it was for joining the “CDM” is the rationale for the arrest,” said a Kan Bauk resident.
The military junta has conducted numerous arrests in Kan Bauk from December, 2023 to February, 2024. At least 16 residents had been arrested but only six were released.
None of the recently arrested victims have been released yet and they have not been allowed to meet with their family members.
After the attempted coup on February 1st, 2021, the military junta dismissed more than 150,000 education staff and has been pursuing many of them for arrest.
