16 Kan Bauk residents arrested within three months

HURFOM: The military junta has been conducting more and more arrests and house searches in the Kan Bauk area, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim.  Between December, 2023 and February, 2024 16 villagers were arrested.

The junta has been searching houses in villages in the Kan Bauk area. They also checked the ‘recent call list’,” said a Kan Buak resident.

Six residents were arrested in December, 2023 and four residents were arrested in January, 2024. As of today, the junta arrested another six villagers.

Restaurant owners from Ohm Pin Kwin village were arrested on February 3rd and additional arrests in Phaung Taw village were made on the same day. On February 10th, the Phaung Taw village Administrator was arrested and on February 11th, a Kan Bauk villager was arrested.

Those arrested were sent to the Mawrawaddy Navy Command and they were not allowed to meet with family members.

In the Kan Buak area, the junta is using an excessive number of soldiers to patrol villages,” said a Kan Bauk resident.

According to the local sources, only six of the 16 arrested have been released.
