Woman sustains severe injury from stepping on landmine in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: On February 7th, 2024, a woman from Ka Rope Pi village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine and sustained severe injuries to both legs.

“Daw Ma Lay stepped on a landmine while going to the plantation to collect firewood. The lower part of her left leg was cut off and her right leg was totally damaged,” said a resident from Ka Rope Pi village.

The victim was sent to Thanbyuzayat Township General Hospital. This was the first incident involving a landmine explosion in the village.

In 2023, there were more than 16 landmine explosions across Mon State. At least seven civilians have been killed and 13 civilians injured by these explosions.
