Residents from ten villages in Tha Yet Chaung Township flee military operation

HURFOM: On January 26th, a regiment with 100 Burmese troops launched military operations in Taung Pyauk Region, Tha Yet Chaung Township forcing residents from Wat They, Pa Khat, Ram Mzu, Tha Yet Ngote, Lake Kyel Pyaung, Thin Gan Tone and Wa Gone villages to flee their homes.

On January 27th, 2024, the military junta launched operations in villages in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Eastern Dawei Region, Tenasserim Division forcing residents from ten villages to flee their homes.

On January 27th and 28th, a military regiment with about 150 troops entered the Eastern Dawei Region via jungle route.

There were villagers arrested by the regiment. We don’t know the latest situation,” said a local source.

The operations are believed to be in response to the joint revolutionary forces attacking and taking control of the “Kyauk Htu” military base in Ban Chaung Region, of Dawei Township.

The regiment was stationed in Thel Chaung village. They launched indiscriminate artillery and small weapon attacks on nearby areas last night (January 29),” said a Taung Pyauk resident.

Due to the military invasion, residents from Kywel Chan, One Ka Phaw and Ah Lel Zu villages, in the Taung Pyauk Region had to flee their homes.
