HURFOM: Heavy armed clashes between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army have been ongoing since November 10, 2023. The battle is taking place in the Chaung Hna Kaw area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.

Because the fighting has been on-going for nearly a week, commodity prices in Chaung Hna Kaw and nearby villages have doubled.

At the moment, the price of cooking oil has gone up from 10,000 to more than 20,000 MMK. The price of rice doesn’t go up too much. But nearly all gas stations have closed,” said a villager.

The revolutionary forces control the Ataran River Bridge and are blocking people from using the Mudon – Chaung Hna Kwa – Kyarinnseikyi Road.

The military junta sent more troops to the area increasing military tensions.

Due to the armed clash more than 1,000 residents from nearby ten villages have fled their homes and schools are also closed.
