Junta orders school closure after November-2 armed clash in Kyarinnseikyi

HURFOM: On November 2, 2023, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army in Kyarinnseikyi Town, Karen State. Three people were killed when nine other people were injured and houses were also destroyed.

After the violence, the junta ordered schools to close indefinitely.

All primary, middle and high schools in Kyarinnseikyi Town have now been closed.

The junta also tightened security in the town and people are worried that there may be another armed clash.

About 30 troops are patrolling the town twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Some residents have moved to other places,” said a local resident.

The elderly  and the sick have already moved to safer places, often with close relatives.
