Junta permanently bans gasoline transportation in Long Lone

May 14, 2025

HURFOM: Ever since the attempted coup began in 2021, the junta has imposed restrictions on gasoline transportation in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division; however, beginning April 27th, 2025, the military junta has totally banned gasoline transportation in the township.

Previously, we could buy gasoline with a one-gallon container but now, even one liter of gasoline can’t be imported. Gasoline is available in Dawei City but we can’t transport it to Long Lone Township as the Ka Myaw Kin Security Gate has imposed a ban on gasoline transportation. This new ban has been in place for more than two weeks now,” said a resident.

Gasoline prices have risen sharply since the ban came into effect. One liter of gasoline that is priced at 3,000 MMK in Dawei City costs Long Lone residents 6,000 or 7,000 MMK.

The high price of gasoline creates problems for street vendors relying on motorbikes or motorcars to sell their products.

People across Burma are experiencing frequent gasoline shortages, which began in 2021.  However, the worst shortages have been in 2023 and 2024 when prices nearly tripled.
