HURFOM: On September 6, along the Kalein Aung–Ma Hlwe Taung road near Mayan Chaung village, ordinary travelers once again paid the price of the junta’s brutality. A cargo truck came under heavy fire from soldiers, leaving the driver and his assistant dead as their vehicle burst into flames. Local drivers described the terrifying scene: the sound of gunfire echoing, vehicles stranded on the road, and no one daring to move until the shooting stopped. By then, the truck was already reduced to ashes.
At around 2:00 p.m., junta soldiers fired continuously at a cargo truck. The driver and his assistant were killed instantly, and the vehicle caught fire and was completely destroyed. “When the gunfire started, about three large vehicles were left stranded on the road. Two people were hit there. They also faced mines. No one dared to approach while the shooting went on. Only when it stopped did we see the truck was already burning. Two other vehicles were also hit by shrapnel,” recounted a driver who witnessed the attack.

Near the burned-out truck, a van and another cargo vehicle were found with shattered windows. Several passengers sustained injuries while fleeing the gunfire. One driver, who was shot in the lower leg, was taken to Dawei Hospital for treatment.
According to the Dawna Guerrilla Force 3, a joint force of Mon, Karen, and Dawei resistance groups, the attack was carried out by junta troops stationed near Mayan Chaung. On that day, junta soldiers and resistance forces were positioned on opposite sides of the village, as well as in nearby Kaung Hlaing and Ya Pu villages.
The Kalein Aung–Ma Hlwe Taung road had only just reopened on September 6 under a three-day trial period. Resistance forces had announced they would monitor the situation until September 8 before deciding whether to allow continued travel. By the evening of September 7, the road remained passable, but drivers were forced to carefully navigate around tree debris, broken benches, and the wreckage of vehicles left behind from the shooting.
