The junta forcibly sent some of the young men to the Kaw Thaung based 432nd Light Infantry Battalion. They will join the 9th batch of conscripts preparing for military service.
On February 1st, 46 young men conscripted were sent by boat to “Shwe Du” educational school in Myeik Township.
“On February 3rd, two days after reaching the school, 16 young men managed to escape at night. Six of them were recaptured by the junta but ten managed to escape,” said one of the escapees.
Two escapees, 32-year-old Thet Nine Htwe and 49-year-old Ko Nine Win Tun, were able to take shelter with the local People’s Defense Force on March 6th. HURFOM has not been able to confirm the whereabouts of the remaining escapees.
