Activist arrested in Mawlamyine

HURFOM: On November 12th, 2024, a 50-year-old democracy activist U Aung Khine from B Hline Ward, Mawlamyine, Mon State was arrested by the military junta.
Security forces consisting of more than 50 troops reached his house with four military trucks, raided the house and arrested him.
“U Aung Khine was a member of the 88th Generation. He used to lead the protests after the coup. But we still don’t know the reason for the arrest,” said a Mawlamyine resident.
The military junta has accused U Aung Khine of having connection with the Kyike Pha Nell 16 Social and Rescue Team in Mawlamyine, an old charity organization whose members decided to join the armed revolution after the attempted coup.
U Aung Khine has been detained and interrogated in the Kan Tone Kan military interrogation center in Mawlamyine. According to a source close to the junta he has been beaten and tortured during interrogations.
On November 2nd, two young men from Chauk Mile Kywell Chan Gone Ward, Mawlamyine were arrested by the military junta for posting criticisms of the military junta on social media.
