HURFOM: In early August, 2024, two local women, Ma Nan Ye and Ma Moe Khine both from Aung Mitta Ward, Ye Town, Mon State were arrested by the military junta at their homes after being accused of supporting the People’s Defense Force. The junta has charged them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
In the last week of September, the Ye District Court sentenced each of them to 15-years of imprisonment.
“The Ye District Court decided both supported the PDF and sentenced them to 15-years imprisonment. Now, they’ve been sent to the Kyikemayaw Central Prison,” said a local source.
There has been constant military tension between the junta and the joint resistance forces in Ye Township and the junta has tightened the security. They have been conducting more “stop and check” and arrests.
On September 10th and 11th, four men and two women from Ye Town were arrested by the junta under similar accusations.
“It’s been 20 days already. Everyone has lost contact with their family members. On September 27th, the soldiers and police members seized all phones and accessories from the phone store of U Aung Maung (one of the arrested) and sealed the store,” said a Ye resident.
HURFOM has been informed that all the six detainees have been beaten and tortured by the junta’s soldiers.
Recently in Ye Township and in Thanbyuzayat, Kyike Hto, Thaton and Bilin Townships, the junta has been arresting local residents and social workers, accusing them of being in contact with and supporting the PDF.
