Telecommunication network cut off in Pauk Pin Kwin
October 7, 2024
HURFOM: Since September 1st, 2024, the telecommunication network in Pauk Pin Kwin village, Kan Bauk region, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim has been cut off and villagers are experiencing communication problems.
Only the Mytel operator is available in Ye Township at the moment and the telecommunication tower has to operate with a gasoline generator. However, the company’s staff have not come to refuel the generator creating a telecommunication blackout in the area.
“Telecommunication has been cut off for a month. Only the Mytel operator can be used in our region. The junta has also banned villagers from riding motorbikes so we had to contact each other by phone. But now, telecommunications are cut off and we’re in trouble,” said a Pauk Pin Kwin resident.
A local pregnant woman died during the birth of her child as she could not call the ambulance in time due to the telecommunications blackout.
“The midwife couldn’t assist her to give birth so she needed to be brought to hospital. As the telecom network was cut off, (her family member) had to go to the ambulance directly. She had died when the ambulance arrived,” said a local woman.
Locals reported to HURFOM that the telecommunication network has been cut off since October 1st, 2024.
On September 16th, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command launched indiscriminate artillery attacks and destroyed electricity poles resulting in telecommunication blackout in the area.
Since February 1, 2021, both the military junta and the local resistance forces have extorted a huge amount of money from the company’s staff who came to refuel the generator of the telecommunication tower. Now staff are unable to refuel the generator, leaving residents in Yebyu Township and Dawei Eastern Forest area without telecommunications service.
