Junta’s artillery and air assaults destroy 32 houses: 2,300 residents flee homes in Ah Nan Kwin

HURFOM: On August 19th, 2024, the military junta launched artillery and air assaults on Ah Nan Kwin village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State. 32 houses were destroyed and more than 2,300 residents were forced to flee due to the attacks.
The military junta battled against the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army near Ah Nan Kwin village on August 15th.
After the battle, an artillery regiment based in Well Ka Lee village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State l and the Southeast Command based in Mawlamyine both launched air assaults targeting the village.
As a result, residents from Ah Nan Kwin, Lut Shan, Pan Aung, Pu Taw and Tha Nyin villages fled their homes.
“The military aircraft dropped bombs in the evening. The entire village fled home when hearing the sound of the aircraft. Houses were destroyed and burnt down by the artillery attacks but there have been no casualties,” said one Ah Nan Kwin resident.
About 300 military junta troops proceeded to burn down the houses of displaced villagers.
The Mawlamyine based Southeast Military Command also launched air assaults on Ah Nan Kwin village in March, 2024 even though there was no active armed clash in the area.
