At least ten residents arrested in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: From May 24th to the 31st, 2024, at least ten residents from Kyike Hto Township, Mon State were arrested. Some of those are young men whose families have not been able to contact them. Those arrested have been accused of providing financial support to the People’s Defense Force.
“Now, the situation is getting worse in Kyike Hto. We can’t wear masks and carry a shoulder bag. If they think it’s suspicious, they conduct an arrest without any reason. Two young men from our ward have disappeared and lost contact with their families since being arrested,” said a resident from Taung Thu Zu Ward.
The junta’s forces have been patrolling in Kyike Hto City both day and night and recklessly arresting young men wandering the streets. If they try to run away, junta’s forces shoot them. To date there has been one casualty.
Among the arrested, Ko Aung Hla Moe from Mote Pa Lin village and 28-year-old Ko Tin Nine Win from Kaw Htin village were accused of having contact with the PDF and charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act.
As most of the arrestees have lost contact with their family members and disappeared, local people have assumed that they have been sent to the military training school for compulsory military service.
“The junta failed to collect enough candidates for compulsory military service. Now, young men are disappearing after being arrested. When going to the police station to inquire about them, the police told the parents to go to a military camp. The parents are crying in agony,” said a Kyike Hto resident.
