Military movement and social media rumors trigger fear amongst residents in Ye Township

HURFOM: On March 31st, 2024, the revolutionary alliances in Ye Township, Mon State announced that they would increase their attacks on the military junta, and local people must be careful where they stay and with their movements.
The announcement has created worry and fear amongst local residents. Many are preparing to flee their homes.
Rumors are circulating on social media that people in towns and villages near military bases in Ye Township such as Ye, Lamine and Khaw Zar towns, Kyaung Yaw, Maw Ka Nin, Gone Paw Yaw Thit and Kwan Du villages as well as communities in the New Mon State Party controlled areas must aware of the possible risk of attacks.
“After seeing rumors on social media, I can’t sleep at night. I am worried, and can’t sleep. We are thinking about how to run away. We’re hearing the same story everywhere at the moment. We’re afraid of experiencing an event like in Dhammasa village. We have prepared as best we can. There are two navy ships near Kaw Dut village and their presence has created more worry. Some people are digging bomb shelters,” said a resident from Ye Township.
At 8 am on April 1st, 2024, a military regiment based in Khaw Zar Town, Ye Township had launched an indiscriminate artillery attack, forcing some residents to flee their homes while some remained in hiding in the town.
“Now we frequently hear gunfire in Khaw Zar. The villagers are fearful because of the military base in Khaw Zar. We are exhausted from running away and coming back home again. Some residents are moving to Mawlamyine. People who remain here are packing their belongings. We must be on the alert for everything now,” said a Khaw Zar resident.
On March 31st, 2024, the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF) and its alliances released a statement urging people not to use the No #8 Union Highway Road (between Southern Ye Township and Tha Yet Chaung Township) between 6 pm and 6 am.
Worrisome rumors are spreading on social media widely that homes in Ham Gam, Ka Log, Hnit Ka Yin, Pa Nga, Taung Bone, Taung Pyin, Kaw Dut, Ah Nin and Ka Rope Pi villages of Ye and Thanbyuzayat Townships are at risk of catching on fire when there is an artillery explosion.
