Junta’s air assault injures four villagers including a child in Tha Yet Chaung

HURFOM: On March 3^rd, 2025, the military junta launched an air assault on Win Ka Phaw village, Taung Pyauk village tract, located in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.  There was no active armed clash in the area.  The attack injured four villagers including a father and son.

Junta’s air assault injures three women including two teenagers in Tenasserim

HURFOM: On March 3^rd, 2025, even though there was no active armed clash, the military junta dropped two bombs on Tha Mee Hla village, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division.  The air assault injured three local women including a 12-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, and an elderly woman Phwar Khin Sein.

Junta arrests 15 young men travelling by express bus in Bilin

HURFOM: At about 5 pm on February 24^th, 2025, the military junta’s “Tan Da Dar (Iron Bridge)” security gate located in Tha Pyay Ne village, Bilin Township, Mon State stopped an express bus travelling on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road.

Junta troops arrested 15 young men on the bus and took them into custody. 

“As far as I know, they intentionally targeted those 15 young men. They did nothing with the other remaining passengers and the driver,” said a local source.

The men had just escaped from a call-scam gang operating in Myawaddy, Karen State and were attempting to return to their homes.

“The arrested included many Yangon residents. There were also residents from Mandalay and Irrawaddy Divisions. We do not know their current whereabouts,” said a source familiar with the matter.

However, villagers told HURFOM that the military junta intentionally arrested the 15 young men and forced them to join the 11^th batch of the military training for conscripts.

Junta’s troops torch six houses in Ye Chaung Pyar region

HURFOM: From February 27^th to March 1^st, 2025, the military junta’s troops burnt down six houses in Kan Hla village, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State. The junta claims that armed revolutionary forces temporarily stayed at those houses.

Junta plans to send undocumented persons in Thailand to conscription camps

HURFOM: On February 24^th, 2025, 200 undocumented Burmese citizens who had served their prison terms in “Ya Noung Detention Camp” in Thailand were sent back to Kaw Thaung Town, Tenasserim Division, Burma.

HURFOM: Although there has been no active armed conflict around Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Township, Mon State, junta troops have stationed themselves in the village preventing 456 displaced villagers from returning home.

Monthly Overview: Targeting of Internally Displaced Persons, Including Women, Children and the Elderly, on the Rise in Southeastern Burma

Human Rights Situation in Mon State, Karen State & Tanintharyi Region, February 2025

Over the past month, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) has observed a concerning escalation in attacks on women and children. The worsening instability throughout Burma indicates that the junta has vastly underestimated the resistance it would encounter in its illegal and unlawful attempt to seize power. As the regime struggles on the battlefield, it has deployed retaliatory strategies that isolate and impact the most vulnerable. Women, children, and the elderly are being targeted in unprovoked airstrikes and indiscriminate attacks, as the junta aims to use violence as a tool of terror. 

At the beginning of the month, In Ye Township, Mon State, three women, including two internally displaced persons (IDPs), were injured when junta troops indiscriminately fired heavy artillery into Wapathae Village, Baelamu Village Tract, despite no active fighting in the area. On the night of January 24, troops from the Junta’s Artillery Regiment No. 317, based in Ye Township, launched five artillery shells into Wapathae Village. Junta arrests two government staff and four business owners in Paung

HURFOM: On February 24^th, 2025, troops from the 102^nd Light Infantry Battalion arrested U Myat Ko Ko, the Chief of the Paung Township Fire Brigade, U Kyaw Myo Hline, the Vice Chief of the Paung Township General Administration Department, Ko Zar Ni, the owner of the “Taw Win” Dormitory, and three other business owners – Ko Moe Ngae, U Zaw Win Myint and Daw Kyaw Kyaw San.

HURFOM: On February 14^th, 2025, in the State Hall, the Mon State Chief Minister, U Aung Kyi Thein claimed the military junta would support each displaced villager in Mon State, with monetary support in the amount of 20,000 MMK.

HURFOM: On February 18^th, 2025, the military junta launched an air assault on Ta Nyin village which is located near Ah Nan Kwin village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State.  The attack injured four villagers.
