Junta arbitrarily arrests a Nyaung Zin villager

HURFOM: On December 7, 2023, the military junta arbitrarily arrested a man from Nyaung Zin village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division.
50-year-old U Htay was arrested while on the way to Dawei City according to sources close to his family.
“We don’t know the cause of the arrest. His wife is a CDM teacher. During the arrest, the military forced him to make a phone call to his wife,” said a source.
Family members learned that U Htay was sent to Tha Yet Chaung Custody but they have not been able to meet with him.
“Family members have inquired for three days but have no information about him. So they’re worrying a lot,” said a local source.
According to the Association for Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP), there have been more than 20,000 victims of arbitrary arrest in Burma, as of December 8, 2023.
