Junta targets Kyauk Ne Maw: Arrests and tortures villagers

October 25, 2023

HURFOM: Kyauk Ne Maw villagers report to HURFOM that the military junta frequently targets their village with artillery attacks, and arrests and tortures residents.

The village is in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.

On October 21, 2023, the military arrested three 20-year-old young men, then beat and tortured them at their military base, according to a source close to the family members of the victims.

They heated the screw driver and stabbed them all over their bodies. They also cut/sliced the bodies of the victims with knives. The victims aren’t allowed to meet with their family members. All the three young men were detained at Kyauk Ne Maw Pagoda Mount,” said a local source.

On October 22, the military arrested a monk, a novice, a child and women who were visiting the village.

Some of them were released now. But the three young men are still in custody. They entered the village saying they would check the visitor’s list. They shot both heavy and small weapons multiple times before entering the village. If they didn’t find the person they wanted, they would arrest the family members,” said a Kyauk Ne Maw resident.

The three young men have not been released as of today,  and it is believed they were tortured by the military.
