Northern Ye residents dig bomb shelters for safety

February 14, 2023

HURFOM: Armed clashes between the Burmese army and the revolutionary joint forces take place nearly everyday in Northern Ye Township, in Mon State.

Now, residents are digging bomb shelters for their safety.

Because the military junta typically is excessive with their retaliatory air assaults and artillery attacks, residents from villages near Maw Ka Nin village and Lamine Town are digging bomb shelters to protect themselves.

We hear gunshots nearly everyday here. They (the revolution forces) attack the military junta very often. They’ve even ambushed the junta forces on the road. After being attacked, the Burmese army randomly shoots artillery. The villagers are afraid these artillery shells will explode in the village or the plantation. So they’re digging bomb shelters, said a Maw Ka Nin resident.

Since martial law was imposed in Ye Township on February 2, local people have experienced armed clashes and abuses perpetrated by Burmese soldiers.

There is the fear of possible armed clashes, and now the experience of martial law. Our suffering isn’t small. Innocent villagers are arrested and beaten. We don’t know what will come next, and we can’t handle what happens in our village. Martial law has brought trouble, said a social worker from Lamine Town.

After being attacked by the revolutionary forces, the Burmese army launched artillery attacks on villages,  resulting  in many casualties and injuries of innocent civilians.

An artillery shell dropped near my plantation and it hasn’t exploded yet. I reported it to the village Administrator and he reported it to the military. But they haven’t removed it yet. The shell is still near my plantation. It’s scary to go to my plantation. I don’t know what to do, said a rubber plantation owner from Maw Ka Nin village.
