Junta forces launched coordinated attacks using heavy artillery and drones in Myeik and Tanintharyi Townships, injuring three civilians, including a young child, and destroying at least three houses, according to local residents.

Around 1 p.m. on October 24, troops from Artillery Regiment No. 306, based in Mawtone, Tanintharyi Township, fired heavy weapons and dropped two bombs from drones on Mawtone (West) Village, even though there were no clashes in the area. A 50-year-old man was injured when shrapnel from an artillery shell hit his leg.

“The drones attacked from the air without any warning. Three houses were hit, and three people were injured by the shelling,” a local resident told HURFOM.

Earlier that same day, at around 10:30 a.m., fighting broke out near Pyin Gyi Junction in Ma-Zaw Village Tract, Myeik Township, when resistance forces attacked a Junta checkpoint. In retaliation, the military fired artillery indiscriminately, and one shell exploded in Mayin Village, injuring a three-year-old child and a 30-year-old man, according to a woman from the area.

The attacks follow a similar incident on October 22, when Artillery Battalion No. 556, based in Zawae Village, fired two shells into Phar Ni Village, injuring seven civilians.

These repeated assaults have heightened fear among local communities, forcing many to flee their homes as fighting intensifies across southern Tanintharyi Region.
