Arrested villagers disappear in Tha Yet Chaung

HURFOM: On May 28th, 2025, a regiment consisting of about 70 troops advanced into Min Dat village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division which is located on the Dawei – Myeik Motor Road.
The regiment stationed themselves at Thit Toe Gone Ward, eastern Min Dat village and proceeded to arrest every villager they encountered along their route. 23 villagers including women and children were arrested and used as human shields.
According to villagers, some were eventually released but at least four 20-year-old men have since disappeared.
“They arrested people and detained them in a three-story building near their military base. They have arrested everyone they encountered since May 23rd. This includes children and adults. Most of those arrested are women. At least four villagers are missing,” said a villager who was released.
On June 5th, 2025, the regiment released everyone they arrested at noon except for two villagers.
On May 26th, the regiment advanced into Min Dat and Chaung Wa Pyin villages and arrested a monk and 15 villagers.
“When they retreated to the Win Wa military base at 8 pm on that night, they took everyone they arrested with them. But they released them the next day. But the 60-year-old monk is still detained,” said a local source.
The regiment has stationed themselves at the Win Wa military base in Min Dat village as of today (June 10th) and launched indiscriminate artillery attacks on nearby villages. A local man was injured by an indiscriminate artillery explosion.
