Four houses belonging to farmer activist demolished by junta in Dawei
May 2, 2025
HURFOM: On April 28th, 2025, the military junta and other supportive officials used bulldozers to demolish four houses in Well Kyune Myo Thit Ward, Dawei City, Tenasserim Division. The houses were owned by the former president of the Dawei District Farmer Association, Daw Ye Ye Htwe, and her family members.
100 members of the junta’s forces, police and members of “Pyu Saw Htee” (military supporters) and staff of the Dawei Development Public Company (DDPC) demolished the houses under the surveillance of the judge of the Dawei District Court.

In 2013, the DDPC filed a lawsuit against Daw Ye Ye Htwe’s family claiming that family members had illegally constructed the houses.
However, the court decided that it was not an illegal residence.

In spite of the court’s final ruling, the junta used excessive force to demolish the houses on April 28th, 2025, and unilaterally granted the land plots to the DDPC.
Daw Ye Ye Htwe and her family members had fled from their houses shortly after the February 2021 attempted coup, as they were afraid of being arrested by the junta. Displaced villagers had been staying in their houses.
Local people reported to HURFOM that the DDPC is a great supporter of the military junta and has had close business ties with Ministers of the Tenasserim Division government.
