Transportation hardships prevent displaced villagers from receiving junta’s monetary support

HURFOM: On February 14th, 2025, in the State Hall, the Mon State Chief Minister, U Aung Kyi Thein claimed the military junta would support each displaced villager in Mon State, with monetary support in the amount of 20,000 MMK.
On February 21st, monetary support was delivered in Kyun Yaw village, Kyikemayaw Township. However, displaced villagers were only able to receive the support after showing their household documents.
Further, displaced villagers from Kyun Yaw, Chaung Hna Kwa, Ma Yan Gone, Pa Ya Gone and Tha Yet Gone villages could only receive the money in Kyun Yaw village.

“The monetary support was dispensed in Kyun Yaw. The household document must be shown to get the support. The displaced villagers must come to Kyun Yaw to get their support. Some displaced villagers aren’t okay to go there,” said a resident.
Most displaced villagers have been taking shelter in remote areas such as forests, mountains and plantation and they face transportation hardships to travel. These difficulties coupled with the relatively small amount of monetary support has prevented many from collecting the support.
“The monetary support was provided only on the 21st. The rest will be delivered next week. Only nearby displaced villagers came. Most displaced villagers are still in the forests and mountains and the monetary support didn’t cover their transportation costs. That’s why they didn’t come to get the support,” said one displaced villager.
