February 19, 2025

HURFOM: Since January 9th, 2025, ten thousand residents from five villages in Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State fled their homes due to intense battles, military advances and artillery and air assaults from the military junta.

In early February, 2025 the situation on the ground became stable, and displaced villagers from Well Bine, Kyauk Mee Chaung, Chaung Du and Well Zin villages slowly began returning home. However, according to local sources, only ten displaced families from Kyone Long (old) village have been able to return home.

Nearly all the displaced villagers from other communities have returned home. But only one third of those displaced from Kyone Long (old) village are able to return home,” said the source.

The Kyone Long (old) villagers who are still unable to return home have been taking shelter at Pha Lan Chaung Wa which is under the control of the New Mon State Party and at a village monastery and rubber plantations in Ah Paw Yit Chaung village in Northern Ye Township.

We don’t hear the sound of artillery attacks now. Movement around the village has returned to normal. But the junta’s security gate authorities record the father’s names and the ID card serial numbers of villagers who have returned from the Ye Chaung Pyar region. The security has been tightened more than before,” said a resident from Ye Chaung Pyar.

The military junta had launched indiscriminate artillery attacks during the armed conflict destroying five houses and partially damaging at least ten houses. The junta also killed two local villagers.
