Displaced villagers in Tenasserim suffer from skin diseases and acute diarrhea

HURFOM: Since December, 2024, there have been intense armed clashes between the military junta and the joint resistance forces in Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division.  Ten thousand residents from Yebyu, Tone Kha, Chaung Hna Pauk and Tha Baw Sake villages and Thane Khun village tract have had to flee their homes.

The displacement has lasted for nearly three months and more than 1,700 displaced villagers from Thane Khun, Chaung Hna Pauk, Tone Kha and Tell Phyu villages are suffering from acute diarrhea, and another 188 displaced villagers are suffering from skin diseases.

More than 600 residents from Tone Ma Khar and Tha Baw Sake village had to flee their homes in February, 2025 and 100 are now suffering from skin diseases.

They had to flee from their homes and there is inadequate shelter space. It’s raining and they are living in very poor conditions. That’s why they suffer from acute diarrhea and skin diseases,” said an official from “Ngwe Oo Mitta “, a foundation assisting displaced communities.

At the moment, more than 2,300 displaced villagers from Tone Ma Khar and Thane Khun villages are in urgent need of food, medicine and shelter.

The weather is cold, and children and the elderly have bronchitis. They suffer from coughing, sneezing and body aches,” said the official.

The armed clash between the junta and the resistance groups is still intense in Thane Khun village tract and in Tone Ma Khar village. The military junta has been launching constant artillery attacks, and blocking villagers from returning home.
