Five villagers killed by regiment during military operations

HURFOM: From November 19th to December 4th, 2024, a military junta’s regiment killed five villagers in Yebyu and Long Lone Townships, Tenasserim Division during a military operation.
The junta’s forces attacked a distillery on the Dawei Airport Road between Sin Sake and Eain Shay Pyin Wards, Dawei City. Then on November 19th, the junta launched a military operation targeting villages in Yebyu and Long Lone Townships.
On November 21st, 2024, the regiment shot and killed construction workers U Kyi Win and Ko Naung Naung in Myo Haung village, Long Lone Township.
“The soldier buried a dead body but another body was just covered with straw,” said a local villager.
On November 23rd, 2024, the regiment entered Na Bu Lell area, Yebyu Township and shot and killed 40-year-old U Kyi Soe from Tha Pyay Zoon village. On November 24th, 2024, 76-year-old U Nyan Shane was shot and killed near Kyauk What Gone village.
“Both of them were going out with their motorbikes and encountered the regiment. They were shot and killed,” said another resident.
On December 3rd, 2024, an armed clash broke out nearby Kyauk What Gone village. Villagers found a body with an open head wound and bruised face in a plantation near where the armed clash took place.
“The dead body was already decayed. It looks like he was killed ten days ago. Now, we have cremated the body,” said a Kyauk What Gone villager.
Due to the junta’s military operation, residents from Htein Twin, Taung Min Pyaung, Myo Haung and Daung Shaung villages of Long Lone Townships and Pane Shaung, Kyauk What Gone, Kya Khatta Pin Inn, Tha Pyay Zoon, Ya Line, Pu Gaw Zoon, Thit Toe Taught, Nat Kwin and Wa Zoon Taw villages of Yebyu Township have fled their homes.
“Half of houses of displaced villagers were burgled and valuable things were looted. Some villagers were released after the regiment left the villages. Now, some displaced villagers have started to return to their homes,” said a local source.
In October, 2024, there were 19 extrajudicial killings in Tenasserim Division, and 12 victims were killed by the military junta.
