HURFOM: At about 4 pm on November 25th, 2024, members of a local militia group stationed at the entrance of Ah Sin village, Ye Township, Mon State stopped four young men who were riding two motorbikes. The men did not follow the order, so the militia members shot at them and subsequently arrested them.

As a result of the militia shooting their weapons, a 30-year-old pedestrian and pregnant woman sustained a serious gunshot injury. She was admitted to the Ye General Hospital.

All four young men are from the village. They just came back from going out. The militia demanded they stop their bikes but they didn’t stop. So the militia shot at them, and arrested them. They aren’t the PDF members,” said a local source.

A young man was arrested in the shooting incident but the other three ran and escaped.

Some said the arrested young man had been detained in the police station but others said he was handed over to the military,” said another source.

In March, 2024, members of militia groups stopped a local man riding his motorbike at the top of the Ah Sin Bridge but the man did not stop. The militia members shot and killed him.
