Monk arrested by unknown armed group disappears in Yebyu

HURFOM: On November 1st, 2024, a monk staying at the village monastery in Pa Ra Dat village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division was arrested by an unknown armed group and he has forcefully disappeared since the arrest.
50-year-old U Su Than Aye is a Pa Ra Dat resident and a former member of pro-military “Pyu Saw Htee” group. He resigned from his duty and was ordained as a monk at the village monastery in 2023.
“He was ordained as a monk in a “Ka Htane” religious event last year. He and his relatives were ordained as monks in the event. I don’t know which armed group arrested him,” said a Pa Ra Dat villager.
None of local armed groups has released an announcement related to the arrest and he has forcefully disappeared as of today, November 6th.
Also on October 10th, 50-year-old Daw Khin Hnaung from Maung Ma Kan village, Long Lone Township was arrested by an unknown armed group and is considered to have been forcefully disappeared since the arrest.
According to the data collected by HURFOM, on March 26th, U Ohm Lwin and his son Ko Htet Lin from Zar De village, Kan Bauk region; on April 30th, U Aye Than from Phar Chaung village and on May 15th, 40-year-old U San Win from Taung Yin Inn village were arrested by unknown armed groups at their home.
Since February 1, 2021, there are thought to be at least 30 armed groups active in the Tenasserim Division.
