Junta’s military operation forces 3,000 residents to flee Pu Law

HURFOM: Since October 14, 2024, the military junta has launched operations in 12 villages in Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division and forced more than 3,000 residents to flee their homes, according to social workers who help displaced villagers.

More than 300 troops from the junta’s 1th Regiment based in Pu Law Township along with other regiments have been conducting military operation in Kyell, Set Taw Yar, Ta Poe, Zayet Sake, Mane Ma Myo, Bie Pyin, Min Pyin, Pa La, Toe, Ka Dell, Pa Wat Kone and Tin Gan Taw villages.

“The junta’s regiment has been divided into groups who are active in Kyell village and Pa La Town. The entire population of 12 villages has had to flee their homes. The junta as of today (October 24^th) continues to be active in the area,” said a social worker.

The junta’s regiment banned local villagers from transporting food in the area.

“The junta has interrogated and arrested the villagers who have bought food. So the displaced villagers find it difficult to get food,” said the social worker.

Currently, military tensions are still growing in Mee Laung Chaung and Kyell villages located on Pu Law-Myeik Highway Road and movement of motorcars has been restricted. Villagers have had to use boats to flee.

On October 20^th, a boat carrying nearly 90 displaced villagers including students, sank near Kyout Kar village, Pu Law Township. Approximately 40 dead bodies were found as of October 24^th.

“Only 30 persons have been rescued. They are displaced persons from Pa La Town and Za Yet Sake village,” said a resident from Kyout Kar village.
