October 23, 2024
HURFOM: On October 17th, 2024, the village Administrator of (10) Mile village, Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division expelled a local woman from the village after claiming she is the mother of a member of the People’s Defense Force.
The son of the 50-year-old woman joined the People Defense Force after the 2021 attempted coup.
On October 15th, there was a battle between the military junta and the People’s Defense Force at (19) Mile village and the Administrator accused the son of being a member of the PDF. His mother was then threatened to move out of the village.
“They said the action of her son damaged the reputation of the village and forced her to move out,” said a local villager.
The woman has earned her livelihood from sewing and her husband is serving a prison term.
“She is frightened by the threat. She lives alone. Her husband is in jail and her son has joined the PDF. She has no one to rely on but herself,” said a resident.
Due to the threat by the Administrator and the Special Branch Forces, the woman has to move to a nearby village.
