HURFOM: On October 10th, 2024, an adult woman from Maung Ma Kan village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division was arrested by an unknown armed group. According to family members, there has been no trace of her for ten days since her arrest.
50-year-old Daw Khin Hnaung was cooking food at the “Lay Thar” monastery when she was arrested by two members of an unknown armed group who came by motorbike.
“They came by motorbike and waited to arrest her. We’ve heard that the armed group had a report that she is a (military) informant. We can guarantee that she is totally not an informant,” said one of her relatives.
Local villagers said the house of Daw Khine Hnaung is located beside the Maung Ma Kan Police Station so she was accused of working as an informant.
“It’s already been ten days but we still don’t know whether she has been killed or is still in detention. The family members are worrying about her a lot,” said a family member.
None of the People’s Defense Force or local armed group has released a statement about the arrest
Since February 1, 2021, both the military junta and the resistance armed groups have been active in Tenasserim Division, and there have been frequent human rights violations such as arbitrary arrests, extra-judicial killings, forceful disappearances and extortion.
